Abstract

This study aims to analyze the concept of the Ummi method, its implementation process in Qur’anic learning, and the supporting and inhibiting factors affecting its application at SDS IT An-Najma 2 Serang Baru, Bekasi. The study is motivated by the persistently high rate of Qur’anic illiteracy in Indonesia, despite the country having the largest Muslim population in the world. This condition is influenced by several factors, including technological developments that divert children's attention from learning the Qur’an, low learning motivation, limited parental support, and the use of less engaging instructional methods. The research was conducted by examining the implementation of Qur’anic learning using the Ummi method within the school environment. The findings reveal that the application of the Ummi method has been carried out in accordance with the standards established by the Ummi Foundation. In the learning process, teachers implement seven stages: opening, apperception, concept introduction, concept understanding, practice or skill development, evaluation, and closing. The implementation of this method has had a positive impact on students’ Qur’anic reading abilities, particularly in understanding the rules of long and short vowel pronunciation (mad) and memorizing short chapters from Juz 30. Supporting factors for the successful implementation of the Ummi method include teacher professionalism and certification, while inhibiting factors consist of the limited number of qualified instructors and variations in students’ learning abilities. Therefore, the Ummi method has proven effective in improving the quality of Qur’anic learning at the elementary school level.
