Al-Khawarizmi's Thoughts and Their Influence on the Development of Contemporary Modern Science
Pemikiran Al-Khawarizmi dan Pengaruhnya terhadap Perkembangan Sains Modern Kontemporer
Abstract
Abstract: This study aims to analyze Al-Khwarizmi’s concept of knowledge and examine his contributions to the development of mathematics and modern science. The research employs a library research method with a descriptive-analytical approach through the examination of various primary and secondary sources discussing Al-Khwarizmi’s thoughts, works, and influence on the history of science. The findings reveal that Al-Khwarizmi’s scientific framework was characterized by systematic and methodological principles, an emphasis on abstraction and generalization, the effective use of numerical systems, the importance of scientific observation, and the dissemination of knowledge as a means of advancing civilization. Furthermore, the study identifies several major contributions of Al-Khwarizmi to mathematics, including the introduction of the decimal system, the use of mathematical variables and symbols, the development of the concept of zero, the compilation of astronomical and logarithmic tables, the advancement of algebraic methods, and the solution of quadratic equations. These contributions significantly influenced the development of scientific knowledge in both the Islamic world and the West. The study concludes that Al-Khwarizmi was one of the most influential Muslim scholars in establishing the foundations of modern mathematics through his monumental work Hisab al-Jabr wa al-Muqabalah, which not only systematically introduced algebra but also became a crucial basis for the advancement of science and technology up to the present day.
